About Us

Hong Kong Paws Foundation

The Voice of Paws Since 2015
Our Story
Hong Kong Paws Foundation (HKPAWS)  is a locally registered, non-profit animal welfare charity. With no government funding or corporate backup, HKPAWS relies solely on public donations to realize our goals.

Every day, we rescue cats and dogs that have been abused, abandoned, injured, and displaced. Through veterinary treatment, behavior training, socialization, and foster services - and in all means prioritizing animal welfare – our vision is to eventually rehome every one of them to the best possible match of adopters.
Since early 2005, we have been working closely with local animal shelters, fosters and adopters, rehoming more than 2,000 cats and dogs so far. In October 2011, HKPAWS was officially recognized by the Hong Kong Inland Revenue Department as a Hong Kong charity (Charity No.: 91/11168).

We currently operate two boarding centres: The Bow Wow Inn for dogs & Cat House.
Our Mission
HKPAWS’s mission is to end animal cruelty and give a voice to those who cannot speak for themselves.

Our Stories

How HKPAWS Started

Kat Cheung,
Our founder -
Kat has been an avid volunteer in animal rescue. She believes that humans have a duty to speak out for those who don’t have a voice. On a stormy afternoon in Discovery Bay in 2005, she found herself alone with 8 dogs of all sizes at an adoption event all drenched with no help.

It was at that helpless moment that the idea of setting up HKPAWS came to her mind – only if she were able to gather more likeminded volunteers, more lives could be saved.
“Without rain, there will be no rainbow.” 🌈
Our hard work will never compare to the suffering and hardship these homeless animals have gone through – and we strive to give everyone of them a second chance to start anew at HKPAWS.

Bow Wow Inn & The Cat House

Bow Wow Inn
With the massive emigration waves that have taken place in Hong Kong the past few years, we have lost a lot of fostering help and potential adopters. Meanwhile, local shelters continue to be full, with constant, imminent pressures to be closed down anytime.

As such HKPAWS decided to setup Bow Wow Inn in 2022 so that we can continue our daily rescue operations in great confidence that we could provide immediate care and shelter for dogs in need.
After a 6-month long of renovation with generous donations from the society, the first phase of Bow Wow Inn currently can house up to 30 dogs. It is located in Kam Tin, New Territories.
